Science with a Pint: POLINA’s partners brings research to the public in Donostia

Uncategorised

We are proud to celebrate the inspiring work of our POLINA partner Marta, who recently helped organize the 2025 edition of Pint of Science in Donostia–San Sebastián, Spain. A dedicated scientist and passionate advocate for science communication, Marta has been a driving force behind the event in Donostia since 2022. This year’s festival marked a record-setting achievement for the city and a major milestone for grassroots science outreach in Spain.

Held across three days in May, Pint of Science Donostia 2025 featured 49 talks, 59 speakers, 18 sessions, and 8 bars—making it the largest Pint of Science festival in Spain by talks-to-city-size ratio. The format, which brings researchers out of their labs and into local pubs, aims to make science accessible, engaging, and fun for everyone.

Thanks to Marta’s coordination and commitment, the festival offered a wide range of topics, from artificial intelligence to sustainable technologies, and welcomed curious minds of all backgrounds to enjoy a pint while exploring the frontiers of knowledge.

The event embodies the POLINA project’s mission to foster open science and cross-disciplinary exchange. By empowering researchers to connect with the public in relaxed, everyday settings, initiatives like Pint of Science help build trust, promote critical thinking, and inspire the next generation of scientists.

We applaud Marta and the entire Donostia team for their hard work and contagious enthusiasm. Their success shows how community-driven efforts can bring science closer to society—one pint at a time.
